Help keep our
streets clean
Darlington Council’s Street Scene
workers are aiming to preserve the picturesque nature of
Darlington’s streets and
parks by cleaning up after litterbugs. Dropping the occasional
sweet wrapper, newspaper and drinks bottle might not seem like
much of a problem but can quickly create an eyesore for
everyone. Helping to keep the streets clean can really help
the impression of Darlington
as a whole and allow all residents to feel a sense of pride in
their area.
Another problem in the area is
fly-tipping which carries a very serious fine of up to £1,000.
Local residents are taking a firm stance against fly-tipping
in their area and groups such as the Dodmire Allotment
Association featured in the case study below are helping
improve the environment for everyone.
Anyone with information about
fly-tipping or littering should call Darlington Council on (01325)

Dodmire Allotment
Association
Helping to improve and maintain the local
environment is something that the Dodmire Allotment
Association are very passionate about. Darlington Champions
provided a grant to help the Association transform an area of
land that had been abused by years of fly-tipping into a
wildlife habitat and communal area to be used by local
children, care homes and other
residents.
Lots of hard
work was put in to drain the area after recent flooding as
well building a pond, bird boxes and a planting vast array of
plants and vegetables. The effort has really paid off and
thanks to the hard work of Kevin Raby and other volunteers the
allotment is proving to be a great success. Kevin had this to
say about Darlington Champions “thank you so much for your
support, without it we simply couldn’t have created this
habitat that will be enjoyed by animals and residents
alike”.
Darlington Champions are determined
to improve the environment and create a greater sense of
community. In order to continue to make a real
difference in Darlington we
need your help. You can help by joining as a Darlington
Champion, adding a link
to us from your website, or telling your contacts about the
important work we do. For more information please visit
