New
Blood Live was set up in 2007 to offer young people aged between 13-17 years
the opportunity to learn and participate in the delivery of music and performing
arts.
The group meet fortnightly with activities such as Dj-ing, learning to play musical instruments and drama sessions at The Forum Music Centre in Darlington and has youth workers and volunteers who supervise the various activities.
Working alongside other voluntary and community groups the project aims to pursue the outcomes that every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, have the support they need to: be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being. This is done through the vehicle of music and performing arts. The sessions provide alternative activities for children and young people to participate in.
We
provided a grant of £6,930 which covered the cost of nine sessions at
The Forum Music Centre from September to December 2007 including equipment
and room hire.
Young people are involved in all aspects of the group including planning
projects and performances and since receiving the funding the group has gone
from strength to strength. New Blood Live even had a stage at this year’s
Darlington Carnival on which bands formed out of the project performed. Since
receiving the funding, over 200 young people have benefitted from the activities
provided by the group.
