Based
in Darlington, Melting Pots Young Persons Junk Band uses instruments made
entirely of recycled materials such as pots, pans, barrels and cans and unlike
most bands, its members do not require previous musical experience.
The group received a grant of £1,500 from the Keepmoat Foundation Fund
to help cover expenses, including rehearsals and performances, room hire and
set up costs, but most importantly, to help the group reach their goal of
becoming a fully functioning band.
Michael Freeman, band facilitator said: “We are all thrilled to receive
this generous donation, it will help us to provide opportunities for young
people and the local community to get involved in musical playing, composition
and performance.”
The Keepmoat Foundation fund is administered by County Durham Foundation and
supported by an annual share of Keepmoat profits. The fund supports groups
in the communities and surrounding areas of FHM North East and Haslam Homes
North East Operations who are facing disadvantage and hardship.
