Firthmoor and District Community Association are a thriving community group that aim to improve education standards and provide recreational activities for local people.
The Darlington based group were given £3,000 to purchase a Juke Box for the young people who are involved in the Playworker Project.
This project helps to empower young people and encourage them to develop their own activities.
The Playworker Project also includes a pool table and table-football which are enjoyed by 30 young people per night. Getting young people engaged and involved in projects like this makes a big impact on anti-social behaviour and being aware of community responsibility. The group has been such a success that they have even organised a weekly “happy days” themed night, with the Juke Box being the focal point.
Allowing
the children to have an active involvement in the project and listening to
their suggestions had been a major reason for its success. The project has
had a positive effect on the children, raising morale and aiding their personal
development.
Martin Landers the project manager had this to say “the grant has been
of benefit to over 200 young people and is helping the group to raise money
to spend on activities. This grant has created a belief amongst the children
that their aspirations can be achieved”.
