Pioneering Care Partnership

Learning to climb on the wallThe Pioneering Care Partnership in Sedgefield received a grant of £2000 for their Options Disability Group to enable young disabled people to participate in sports activities at a local leisure centre such as climbing and swimming.

The Partnership has been providing services to disabled people who live within the District of Sedgefield for over 5 years now and it still has some of it's original members. Receiving this funding means that they can keep contributions from members low and offer an affordable service for all.

The project aims to provide disabled people with opportunities for participation in educational and social activities. They hope to help members achieve their own personal goals and aspirations and also overcome the traditional barriers to inclusion in everyday life. The project has 30 users who have chosen to participate in activities. The programme of activities is decided by the members themselves.

Working hard in the gymThe young people who take part in activities are of varying ages and disabilities and as such the Partnership aims to match similar needs within each group that they run. As a result they hold classes for people with learning disabilities on a Friday and classes on a Monday for those with physical disabilities.

'The group have really grown in confidence and their self esteem has come along great since having this opportunity to meet every week.'
